Dr. Danica Sumpter, Ph.D., RN, is an accomplished nurse educator and scholar with a passion for promoting health equity and anti-racism in nursing.
In March 2025, Dr. Sumpter presented for the American Nurses Association’s Project Echo on Racism in Nursing, part of the Commission to Address Racism in Nursing. She served as a clinical associate professor at the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing for 12 years, and she is a DEI consultant for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
She was recognized for her innovations in teaching and named a university Provost’s Teaching Fellow in 2019. In 2021, she was named a Macy Faculty Scholar and developed a Toolkit for Anti-Racist Teaching (T-ART). The T-ART seeks to equip and empower faculty in health professions to teach how institutionalized racism persists as a significant "pre-existing condition" underlying numerous health inequities.
